A 4-way match validates four documents against each other: the purchase order, the goods receipt, the supplier invoice, and a fourth supporting document (commonly a certificate of analysis for regulated goods, a bill of lading, or a quality test). Traditional RPA struggles because the fourth document is unstructured, the data lives in different systems and email, and the variability between suppliers breaks brittle rules. When values fall outside tolerance, when a document is missing, or when the certificate of analysis fails a written policy threshold (for example 'moisture content must be ≤ 2%'), the agent stops processing that invoice and raises a plain-English exception to the right business user. The user resolves it once, the policy learns, and the next similar exception is handled without a developer round-trip.
